What can go wrong

Prostate problems can make urinating more difficult. The gland can enlarge or become inflamed causing problems.

Although symptoms may be similar some problems are less serious than others.

If you are concerned then a visit to the GP should be considered. The Gp will be able to decide if you have a problem and how serious that problem might be

Symptoms

  • Rush to the toilet. not making it sometimes
  • Frequently need to urinate especially at night
  • Straining taking long time to finish
  • Takes long time to start urinating
  • A week flow
  • Feels like you have not finished.
  • Pain on passing urine
  • Pain on ejaculation
  • Pain in the genitials

Main Prostate Problems

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia(BPH) is very common and occurs as men get older. It is most likely to effect men over 60 The protate gland gets bigger causing difficulty or pain passing urine. BPH does not lead to Cancer.

Prostatitis can affect men of any age. It is an inflammation of the prostate. It causes pain and difficulty when passing urine. It can cause pain in the pelvis, genitals, back passage and during ejaculation. It can also cause fever.

Prostate Cancer

Most men diagnosed with prostate cancer will be over sixty. Men in their forties can be affected symptoms are: -

  • Difficulty Passing Urine
  • lower back pain
  • difficulty with erection
  • pain in Hips and Pelvis
  • blood in urine -Rare

Grade

Tumours are usually staged using the TNM system T1 and T2 tumours (early stage) are confined within the prostatic capsule. T3 tumours have grown through the prostatic capsule and are known as locally advanced. T4 tumours are also regarded as locally advanced, assuming spread is confined to nearby tissues or lymph nodes.

The Gleeson score or a grade may also be refered to by doctors. The least aggressive cancer being Gl 2-4 or G1 moderately aggressive GL5-7 or G2 most aggressive GL8-10 or G3
